Watch When Scanning Coupons!

I was making my monthly see-what-I-can-get-free-with-coupons trip at Target today. So, I collected my items and went to check-out. Some of my items were the Shout Wipes, 4 count, for $0.97 each. I brought 8 of them to the check-out counter and proceeded to use 4 $2/2 coupons.

When the cashier scanned my coupons, they only took off $0.97! The manager was called over and told me that those coupons really weren’t supposed to be used on those items. I then explained to her that the coupon did not specify size restrictions. The manager then said, “Well our register’s know it’s not supposed to be for that item so it will only take off $0.97.” I then politely told her that I did not want to purchase those items.

I purchased the rest of my items and headed to Wal-Mart. They also carry the Shout Wipes, 4 count, in the travel section for $0.97 each. I picked up 8 of them and headed to the check-out with my 4 $2/2 coupons. I let the cashier know that my coupons may need manager approval and he had no problem with it.

Much to my delight, the coupons scanned at Wal-Mart with NO PROBLEMS! (Only asking if the coupon was a valid amount).  I also give credit to the cashier for knowing how to answer the question: Valid coupon amount?

So… make sure you watch when the cashier scans your coupons to make sure the correct amount is taken off!

Also, note that I did not solely go to Wal-Mart just for the Shout Wipes. I also went for some freebies that Target did not carry:
Olay Body Wash (travel), $0.97
-Use $1/1 any Olay Body Wash

Post-It Super Sticky Notes, single pack, $1.00
-Use $1/1 any Super Sticky Notes

Gain Dish Liquid, 11 oz, $0.97
-Use $1/1 any Gain Dish Liquid

Easy Dinner Idea: Slow Cooker Ribs

Randall’s has country-style ribs on sale for $0.99/lb through tomorrow, August 31. I bought four packs of them! I would have bought a few more, but there were a few other people interested in them as well and I didn’t want to clean the shelves! Remember to share : )

Anyway, I will admit, I am not very good using the barbecue outside. So in the past I have only cooked ribs in the oven (which came out fantastic), but since it is super hot outside, I didn’t want to heat up the house using the oven.

Crock-Pot to the rescue! My Crock-Pot even came with recipes, including Slow Cooker Ribs:

- Enough ribs to fill 1/2 to 3/4 of your slow cooker, cut into 2-3 rib segments
- 2-4 cups barbecue sauce
- 2-3 onions, chopped

1. Place ribs in slow cooker. Top with onion and barbecue sauce.
2. Cover and cook on Low for 7-9 hours or on High for 4-5 hours, or until meat is tender.
3. To serve, cut ribs between bones and coat with extra sauce as desired.

Now I am a pretty picky eater and I can’t stand the texture of onions, so I am substituting 1 Tbs. onion powder for the 2-3 onions.

Also, some recipes you will find say to brown the ribs first using the broiler and some say you don’t have to. Browning the ribs first reduces the fat and makes the taste of the ribs more in-depth… but it is not necessary to brown the ribs first.

Happy slow cooking!

Free Carmex & Breathe Right Strips at Walgreens!

Easy Smoothie Idea: Yogurt Cubes

Randall’s ran a deal a few weeks ago on Dannon Yogurt. I was able to get quite a bit of yogurt for cheap! Some was eaten, most was not. So it was getting pretty close to the expiration date and I didn’t want to let it all go to waste.

I got two silicone ice cube trays and froze the yogurt into cubes! You don’t have to use silicone ice cube trays, regular trays would probably work as well.

But now we have yogurt cubes ready to go anytime we want to make a smoothie!

My First Groupon!!

Groupon

I have mentioned Groupon before, and how great the deals are. I guess I was just waiting for the *perfect* deal for me to actually make my first Groupon purchase.

Today was the day! The Austin Groupon had a one-month Gymboree membership (a $154 value), with waived initiation fees, for only $32!!

You can choose any class you want too! The deal was one class per week plus unlimited open gym play. I had been wanting to enroll my daughter in Gymboree for quite a while now, but thought it was kind of expensive. While the one free class was great, it really wasn’t enough to really get a feel for how my daughter would like it.

But now, she can try an entire month for only $32! But after that month is up, it goes back to regular price per month, unless you cancel, but I still don’t have to pay the initial fee. A great deal!

Super Cheap Gift Cards at Randall’s

Randall's

I apologize in advance for being soooo late in posting this, possibly too late, but I felt it needed to be shared.

When you buy $25+ worth of participating items (P&G products, but not all P&G products) at Randall’s, a coupon will print for $10 off the purchase of a gift card!

I did two transactions, first with Olay products, the second with Pampers products, so I wound up with $20 in coupons I could put toward a gift card!

It was a very difficult choice. I literally stood in front of the gift card display for probably 10 minutes, but I eventually chose a $25 Amazon gift card.

So, after the coupons, I scored a $25 Amazon gift card for only $5!! Woo hoo!! With no expiration date, I will probably save it until Christmas to buy gifts.

3 Ways to Cook up Apples

Apples

A local grocery store had Gala apples on sale for $0.37 per pound!! Needless to say I bought about 15 pounds! What do you do with 15 pounds of apples? Here is what we will be eating for weeks to come:

- Apple jelly
- Dried apples
- Apple pies

Now I am sure there are tons more ways to use fresh apples, but these three will best serve us. Here is how to prepare apple jelly, dried apples, and our apple pie recipe.

Apple Jelly
You will need:
1 – Ball No-Sugar Needed Fruit Pectin
1 cup unsweetened apple juice
Fresh apples to yield 4 cups prepared, about 16 medium apples
4-6 Half Pint Jars with Lids and Bands

Optional:
Up to 3 cups sugar
Up to 1 cup honey
Artificial sweetener to taste

Follow instructions inside Ball No-Sugar Needed Fruit Pectin

Dried Apples
You will need a food dehydrator to make these and as many apples as you want!

Peel and core apples. Slice apples in to rings and place onto dehydrator. Turn on dehydrator and let dry overnight. *Tip: It is very important to get all of the peel off the apple because when the peel dries it becomes very sharp and can cut your mouth.

Apple Pie
You will need:
3-4 large apples
1 Tbs. Cinnamon
2-3 packets artificial sweetener
2 uncooked pie crusts
Butter

Peel, core, and dice apples. Toss them in a bowl with cinnamon and sweetener. Pour into bottom pie crust. Top with pats of butter. Lay second pie crust on top and seal edges. Poke top crust with a fork a few times. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.

77% Savings at Target!

I made a quick trip to Target to use up some great Scrubbing Bubbles and Huggies coupons before they expired. Here is what I picked up:

Bought:
2 – Scrubbing Bubbles Power Sprayer Starter
3 – Scrubbing Bubbles Toilet Cleaning Gel
3 – Scrubbing Bubbles Fresh Brush 2-in-1 Starter Kit
3 – Huggies Diapers, jumbo pks
1 – Huggies Wipes, 64 ct
1 – Huggies Wipes Refill, 184 ct

Now usually it is pretty easy for me to look at my receipt and remember which coupons I used, but this particular manager at Target put up a fuss about some of my coupons and wouldn’t let me use them even though I knew I was using them correctly. Ugh. Although, my coupons did involve stacking manufacturer coupons with Target coupons, buy 1, get 1 free coupons, and getting gift cards, which I used over 3 transactions.

Anyway, here is the run down of what I spent versus how much I saved:

ARV: $83.42
Total OOP: $19.05
Savings: $64.37, 77.16%

It’s OK to Take a Break

Have you noticed my lack of posting for nearly the past two months?

It all started with one week that didn’t seem to have many good deals. So I didn’t shop that week. I was fine with that since I had been building my stockpile since January. I still bought my usual four Sunday papers though so I would have the coupons for the next week.

Well, the next week came along and I didn’t feel like shopping then either. Maybe it was because I saw how well we had gotten along the previous week without shopping. Maybe it was just a couponing burnout. I’m not sure.

Anyway, whatever the reason, it lasted another few weeks, all the while I was still getting usual four Sunday papers for the coupons. Then I was looking at the ads for the week of Mother’s Day. I saw some great ads and planned to go shopping that week. But I told myself the shopping would have to wait until I had all my coupons cut and sorted and my coupon binder up to date. I was certain that I would be able to go shopping closer to the end of the week.

That didn’t happen. I went to the Emergency Room with a gallbladder attack the Monday after Mother’s Day. Ugh. I had surgery to remove my gallbladder and now all is well and I am steadily recovering.

But, while I was in the hospital… ALL of my ExtraBucks EXPIRED!!! Around $30 worth! I felt like kicking myself. Major disappointment to say the least.

Then, a couple days ago, I received an e-mail from the CVS Advisor Panel asking me to take a survey. I readily took it, knowing that if I qualified and completed the survey that I could earn up to $15 ExtraCare Bucks; and if I took it but didn’t qualify to complete it, I would still receive at least a couple ECB’s.

I qualified and completed the survey!! I earned $15 ExtraCare Bucks! This definitely softened the blow of losing about $30 ECB’s!

I knew this was the time to get back in the game of couponing. I was still recovering from surgery and that consisted mostly of resting so I definitely had the time to organize my inches thick stack of coupon inserts that had been piling up the past few weeks.

So that is was I have been doing this past week: cleaning out my coupon binder (was completely sad about the amount that had expired), sorting and cutting weeks worth of coupon inserts, and filling my coupon binder back up with the new coupons it has missed so much.

I admit that I do have a few more coupons to file, but since there won’t be any new coupons this upcoming week, I know I can get that done without the worry of getting behind again.

So, the moral to this long, long story? It’s OK to take a break!! Yes, coupons will expire. Yes, you may lose ExtraCare Bucks or other free money printed from the register. But it’s ok. There will be new coupons next week, and the next week, and the next week. ExtraCare Bucks can be earned again. The deals will still be there. Life will still go on.

Earn ExtraBucks with CVS Advisor Panel

CVS

So, every few months I will receive an e-mail from CVS asking me to take a survey about CVS. The program is actually called CVS Advisor Panel and you can learn more about it HERE.

Basically, CVS will e-mail you surveys to take about your experiences with CVS and in return you can earn ExtraCare Bucks! If you take the survey, but do not qualify to finish it, you will earn around $2 ECB. But if you qualify and complete the survey you can earn up to $15 ECB! You will need to have a CVS ExtraCare card, but those are free!

I was just offered a survey a couple days ago and I qualified for it and completed it and I earned $15 ECB for a survey that only took about 30 minutes!

So sign up for the CVS Advisor Panel HERE!!

Check Out The Elect Lady!

baking dish

I recently entered a givewaway for the Pampered Chef Baking Dish you see above at The Elect Lady.  And I WON! Yay! I was so excited!

She promptly mailed it and I received it very quickly. Sadly, when I opened it, it was broken beyond use. I was pretty bummed. I politely sent her an e-mail letting her I know I had received it but that it was broken and thanked her for the giveaway. I wasn’t upset because it wasn’t her fault it broken. These things just happen sometimes. And I thought that would be it.

But no, that was not it. She wanted to make sure things were right, so she ordered another one directly from Pampered Chef to me and sent it overnight! I was ecstatic! I received it today and it is gorgeous and I cannot wait to use it! Dinner tonight maybe?

So… you NEED to check out The Elect Lady! She truly cares about her readers plus she has some GREAT articles! She has multiple ways to subscribe to receive her posts, so head on over to The Elect Lady right now!
